About Chennai City

Chennai (formerly known as Madras) is the capital of Tamil Nadu, India. It is known for its classic temple architecture and rich cultural heritage. Chennai is the fourth largest city in India and the Marina beach here has the pride of being the second longest in the world. The city is a hub of historic and reputed academic institutions which have catered to the intellectual inputs of renowned Noble Laureates, Sir C.V.Raman and Prof.Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar during their primitive academic years. Pachaiyappa's College affiliated to the University of Madras, the oldest and mother of all Universities in south India, is one of the prominent landmarks of the city.

About the College

Pachaiyappa's educational institutions had their genesis in the year 1842 in various parts of the then Madras Presidency, adhering to the will of Pachaiyappar, a Master Financier and Merchant Prince of that era and are presently celebrating Dequasbicentennial Jubilee. Pachaiyappa's College, a unit of Pachaiyappa's Trust Board, has produced many eminent scientists and leaders over the years. Mind Moves Matter is the motto of Pachaiyappa's College and the college has been serving the society through education for the past 175 years with the same dictum. The Department of Chemistry deems it a great honour and proud privilege in Organising ICACCS 2018, commemorating the 175th year of inception of the institutions.

Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry, established in 1940, is one of the oldest in the country and since then remains as one of the premier centers for excellence in research and post graduate studies. The department owes its credit to the stalwarts who were instrumental in shaping its destiny. The faculty of Chemistry have earned academic distinctions, awards and research grants from national and international agencies. ICACCS2018 is a small initiative in carrying forward the legacy of the past to the posterity.
